Deburring, Polishing and Surface Finishing - Extrude Hone Corporation®
ECM Applications in Diesel
While our Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) processes are held as the standard finishing solution within the diesel industry, there are many instances where our Electrolytic Machining (ECM) process is a viable and cost-effective alternative. In fact, our electrolytic processes are fast, highly controllable and extremely accurate. Like AFM, the Extrude Hone ECM process is able to machine, deburr and polish surface locations previously unreachable by other methods, including manual or hand work. Because the ECM process removes metal without direct contact between the tool and the workpiece, it does not expose the workpiece to mechanical or thermal stress. As a result, the integrity of specific geometries, such as holes, edges and intersecting passages, are preserved. Moreover, the electrolytic process provides controlled material removal ranging from 0.0005” to 0.01” (0.01mm to 0.25 mm) on most applications.
For the diesel industry, the unique ability of Extrude Hone’s ECM technology to precisely machine features to interior passages makes it an invaluable process:
